From the bank to the top
He started behind a desk
Remy Bonjasky was born in 1976 in Paramaribo, Suriname, and grew up in Amsterdam. Before turning professional he worked at a bank. A neat suit, a steady salary, and the nagging feeling there was more in him. The ring kept calling.
He chose kickboxing and trained with a discipline that would define him. Technique over power, head over ego. That approach earned him three K-1 World Grand Prix titles (2003, 2004 and 2008) and the nickname The Flying Gentleman, for his flying knee and his calm, elegant style.
